I'll admit I probably never would have read this book but for the Malkovich/Close movie. The movie made a greater impression on me; so, in that sense, I suppose it was better than the book but I enjoyed both.I think what's stayed with me most since watching/reading the story is the pity I feel for the utterly morally, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually bankrupt lives everyone but the Michelle Pfeiffer character lead (sorry, I don't have the book in front of me and can't remember the character's name).
